Method:1 Resetting Passcode by Using Apple ID
In case you have successfully linked your Apple ID with your account, then follow these steps:
  • First of all, you have to navigate the “System Preferences” tab and then tap on the option “Users and Groups.”
  • Now, choose your particular username from the provided listings.
  • Provide your secured Apple ID and its associated password.
  • After that, tap on the “Change Password” tab and abide by all the instructions on your screen. It will help to create your new passwords.
  • While creating a fresh password, the Mac will inform you about a fresh Sign in the keychain.
Method:2 Resetting “Apple ID”
Some editions of Mac Operating System use the Apple ID for resetting your sign in passcode
Now, enter the password that you know. If you have tried three unsuccessful attempts, then the Apple ID reset option will be active.
Note: It will appear after three unsuccessful attempts of your currently saved passcodes.
  • First of all, tap the “next” icon appears as a video player symbol located just after the message of your Apple ID.
  • Now, create a new passcode along with following on-screen instructions.
  • Finally, sign in using your newly created passcode.
Method:3 Resetting Password through another “Admin” Account
You can use any of the admin details that you know to reset your account. In case you know the passcode and name of that particular account, then you may apply it for resetting your account. To do so, follow these instructions:
  • Firstly, Sign in with any of the Admin account details that you know.
  • Now, hit the “System Preferences” tab by navigating the “Apple” menu.
  • After that, tap on the “Users and Groups” option.
  • Tap the “lock” icon and type the admin password and its name.
  • Choose the user name by navigating the User’s listings.
  • Hit the “Reset Password” tab and follow on-screen indications to generate a fresh passcode.
  • After that, select the “Sign Out” tab by navigating your “Apple” menu.
  • Now, Sign In your particular account by entering the new passcode.
Method:4  Resetting Password through “Recovery Kay”
If all the above methods didn’t work, then you can follow the recovery key method to reset your Mac account, but make sure that you have the “FileVault’s Recovery Key,” and it is switched “ON.”
Follow these steps if you wish to reset your account by using “FileVault” :
  • First of all, keep typing the password until you encounter the “Recovery Key” option.
Note: In case you didn’t see the option of the Recovery key, then it means that the option isn’t turned “ON.”
  • After making sure that it is enabled, then hit the “Next” tab there. You will see that your passcode section turns to “Recovery Key.”
  • Now, provide the recovery key. You have to use hyphens with capital letters.
  • After that, abide by the on-screen directions in order to create a fresh passcode.
  • Then, tap the “Reset Passcode” option after completing the above steps.
  • Now, you can allow your system to create the sign in the keychain.
In case, you are unable to sign in to your account with newly created passcode after booting your device; then it is recommended to follow these instructions:
  • Press and hold down “Cmd + R” until you view the particular “Spinning Globe” or “Apple” symbol. You can hit various other recovery key combinations of macOS.
  • After some time, the utility screen or macOS will expand, then hit the “Utilities” tab.
  • Next, tap on the “Terminal” option located inside the menu tab.
  • Then, enter the “reset password” in the provided “Terminal” window and hit the “Return” tab. It will launch the password assistant for resetting your particular account.
  • After that, choose “My password doesn’t work when logging in” option.
  • Finally, tap on “Next” and follow the on-screen steps.
