How to Lock Apps on iPhone to Secure Your Device

Securing your sensitive data of various app is a concern from those users who can access your phone. So locking those apps is one of the prominent ways to do that.
Do you want to save your sensitive data from unwanted access such as kids or some sneaky friends? Then locking the apps can help you to achieve the goal. Here you can know how to save all kind of apps, whether it is First-party or Third-party app. Here is how to do it:
Locking Procedure of First-Party App
Apple has not provided any feature on the system level for iOS. So you can’t lock every app for now. However, you can use a workaround and use some fixes; still, it doesn’t lock those apps, but the effect seems the same. Follow the steps to create these fixes:
  1. Go to “Settings.”
  2. Tap on “Screen Time.”
  3. Then go to “Content & Privacy Restriction.”
  4. Select the “Allowed Apps.”
  5. Find The toggle switches, then turn them off for those apps which are not in use.
  6. Go back to Home Screen.
For the Older Device Users:
If you are using the older model of the iPhone, then you can use the restrictions, which works like the app locker for the Apple apps.
You have to reach the home page of Setting.
  • Tap on General.
  • Scroll down the new screen till you see the Restrictions, click on it.
  • Now tap on Enable Restrictions.
  • Create a Passcode in the shown screen.
  • Now the Restrictions is enabled, you will be shown several options of apps to choose from (by toggle icon if it is green then it will be restricted; otherwise, it is not.
  • After selections of apps, click on Allow Button.
Keep this on mind that this method is only applicable to the first-party apps. The apps that you have downloaded those will be not shown in the options.
It is kind of app removal (for temporary) basis than app locker. This removal is in effect till you give it access again. You also have an option to add the Parental Control on the Allow Content Section (having a data type of media and documents).
You can also control the changes in privacy setting through the Privacy Section.
Setting the Time Limits
If you are a social networking addict, then you can use this technique which can lock the apps after the time limit even if you are using it.
  • You have to go to the Setting app.
  • Click on Screen Time.
  • Then tap on App Limits.
  • Now click on the Add Limit.
  • Here, you have to choose the apps and set the time limit, which will represent the maximum amount of time to use that app in a single day. Then click on the checkbox on the left and set the limit. Now you can also set periodic time (the number of days) after which time will start from zero.
 Fingerprint App Lock:
Touch ID allows users to lock some specific apps, where the fingerprints of the user will open those apps. This fingerprint security feature is available from iPhone 5S to 8 Plus.
  • For this, you have to go to Setting.
  • Tap on Touch ID and Passcode.
  • Enter your Passcode, to enter the page.
  • Turn on the toggle switches for those apps you want to lock.
  • It is only available for the Apple Pay, App Store, and iTunes.
Lock Apps by Third Party App:
These apps are provided or developed by others. For this method, you have to download these apps and give permissions so that it can access your phone. These apps can also use the biometrics in the phone to unlock the apps.
For the iPhone sets, it seems the best option to lock the apps because it includes all the apps on the phone and other documents too. There is a variety of choice in the third-party app so you can choose them as per your comfort.
Even though there are many positive sides to these methods, there are some drawbacks too. Foremost of them is that if you wish to use these apps, you have to perform the Jailbreak procedure, which makes your device susceptible to open threats and another performance issue.
Some famous example of these third-party apps is Locktiopus, AppLocker, and BioProtect. You can install them from the Cydia an online store to provide apps to jail-brake an iPhone.
After installing these apps:
  • Open the Setting.
  • Tap on the Protected Items.
  • Go to Applications.
  • Then choose the apps that you want to lock and protect.
You also can use the Vault App to lock the apps. This app provides a locking mechanism not only for the apps but the individual files and documents too. From this app, you can only lock the specific file rather than locking the whole app.
Still, the jailbreak is a big step. It is not recommended any time, but if you wish to do it, then do it when the warranty of that iPhone is over.
